Grab & Go Framing Corner

Are you a person who is comfortable putting your own pictures into a frame?  Or perhaps you are on a tight budget but wish to do a little decorating on your walls.  Today’s ready-made “grab and go” frames are usually pretty easy to assemble.  Your friendly frame shop professionals can give you some tips if you need a bit of instruction to get going.

J & S Picture Frame Warehouse is proud to announce its brand new Grab & Go Framing Corner with an excellent selection of ready-made frames.

See layouts and designs on how to create your very own photo wall at home.  Whether you are looking to hang a grouping, or just need one or two frames for some photos we can help you choose something within your budget.

The Grab & Go Corner frames come in a selection of black, brown or white.  Frames include regular glass, backing and a hook to hang. They range in size from 8 1/2 x 11 to 18 x 24.  These frames work great for kids art, as pictures can be easily swapped out as new ones are created.  They are also a good choice for artists and DIYers who want an economical way to display their pieces of art.  You can float your art under the glass, or add a mat or two that complement your colors – let your imagination guide you!  Mats and assembly can be added for a small fee.  Another fantastic and trendy idea is to take an empty frame, remove the glass, put strings across and display photos or kids art using clothes pins – sooo cute!

If you are looking for something a little more exquisite you can choose from a wide variety of custom made stock frames which range from 4 x 6 to 20 x 24.  We have everything from simple to ornate and rustic to chic in a variety of colors and finishes.  We also have an extensive collection of mats in a variety of sizes and colors for you to choose from.

So, no matter your decor we can help you design a look or update to the newest trends.

We are your one-stop shop for at home framing.  Come on by, grab…. and Go!

To Mat Or Not To Mat Your Artwork & Photographs . . .

Have you ever wondered why mats are used in framing artwork and photographs?  Well, they serve several purposes.  One of the main purposes is to protect the piece in which you are framing.   Artwork and photographs over time, and with temperature changes, can stick to the glass if there is no barrier in between the piece and the glass. Glossy photographs are the most likely to stick to glass – matte finish papers usually won’t.

A piece of fine art should be allowed to ‘breathe’ in the frame (expand and contract) and the mat allows for that. The mat serves as a layer of protection so that the image is not in contact with the glass.  Especially if you have an original piece of art (like a pastel) or a photograph that you want to preserve for years to come.

Another way that mats are used is to make an image stand out.  When you mat your image it can help by adding depth and dimension to your piece, thus making the eye focus in on the image.  It can also help enhance certain colors in the piece making them pop off the page.  If you would like to add more depth and dimension to your work you can double or even triple mat your piece.  Also, if you have a small image, instead of enlarging it you can put a larger mat on it, making the piece overall a lot bigger.

Most picture framers will have dozens of colors and textures to choose from to help enhance your piece and help you show off your precious piece of artwork and photographs, as well as show off a little of your personality at the same time.

Always choose mats that are acid-free so they will not harm your artwork or photographs and the bevel will not yellow over time.

So…. to mat or not? Some pieces of art need to be matted; pastels (so the color doesn’t transfer to the glass), needlework, shiny photos, and delicate papers like rice paper.

It also comes down to budget  – single mat vs triple mat – and personal preference. Same with the width of mats. I love the look of a wide mat on a piece of art… others don’t.

 J&S Picture Frame Warehouse Mission:

There have been many visible changes to the J&S Picture Frame Warehouse art gallery over the past three months. One being the addition of Glen Scrimshaw, and the second being the addition to our existing art gallery. J&S Picture Frame Warehouse recently had our gallery grand opening on November 5th and we have expanded the space to allow for more local artists to show their work in our newly redesigned space!

J&S Picture Frame Warehouse’s mission is to give local artists the opportunity to show  and sell their artwork without having to pay astronomical commissions and membership fees. For many of us, additional costs make it very difficult to break into the Saskatoon art scene therefore, we have eliminated that roadblock entirely. We would like to reach out to anyone who would like to book the space with open arms and say, “Welcome to J&S Picture Frame Warehouse!”

J&S Picture Frame Warehouse Fees and Commissions:

Our fees are $35.00 per week for the space rental for a maximum of 30 days and our commission is 15% on transactions completed with our debit machine (Debit, Master Card and Visa) or 10% on any cash transactions. The space is big enough to host several artists at one time, as a result, making it more affordable for those who wish to display your work!

Marketing & Promotion:

We will assist you with marketing the event but you will be required to send out personalized invitations to anyone you would like to invite.

This is a list of items that Ashlea will need from you to help you make your grand opening a success:

  • Pictures of featured art work for our blog, social media and flyers
  • Grand opening date
  • Biographies of featured artists (short)
  • Social media and website information to link to our sites14633448_293323911066709_3635485460914884161_o
  • Proof of liquor licence if you wish to serve alcoholic beverages at the Grand Opening
  • Deposit and signed contract for the space

Here is an example of marketing used for our current show, A Creative Collaboration Exhibition that runs from November 5th – November 18th, 2016

In conclusion, if you are an artist, you are welcome to show your work here at J&S Picture Frame Warehouse’s new art gallery!
